this week we are working on our vision for the future…

What do you want your life to look like in the future? It can sometimes be hard to visualize your future. Remember during this exercise that what you write down is not set in stone, it may change, but there is power in writing things down and having a clear vision.

What is a Vision Statement?

A vision statement is a document that states the current and future objectives of an organisation. The vision statement is intended as a guide to help the organisation make decisions that align with its philosophy and declared set of goals. It can be thought of as a roadmap to where the organisation wants to be within a certain timeframe. Vision statements can be returned to, reviewed and revised throughout a business journey, though changes should be minimal as a lot of thought should go into it the first time around.

A vision statement doesn’t have any particular length. It can be as short as an aspirational sentence or pages long, depending on how much detail you want to give it. However long it is, the vision statement is formally written and is used as reference in company documents to serve as a guide for actions now and in the future.

The aim of a vision statement:

The aim of a vision statement is to set a broader strategic plan for the organisation - to focus your efforts on what actions you need to achieve your goals. It’s very easy to get bogged down on the day-to-day details of running an organisation. The vision statement helps you plan and make decisions long-term and helps differentiate your organisation from others.

For example - Get more sun by having your morning coffee outside, stretch or meditate for 10 minutes every morning, save all your business receipts in one place, follow up on business enquiries, practice gratitude

  • Exercise B - What habits do you currently have (small or big) that you feel are getting in the way of you achieving your vision for the future

  • Exercise C - Pick one of the habits from Exercise A that you can carry forward and put into place for the following month

week 3 book

This week's book recommendation is "The 4 Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferriss.

The book title itself may come across quite controversial and you may think that the entire book is centered around how to cram your working week into 4 hours.

However after reading, it couldn't be further from those misconceptions. This book speaks about how to create freedom in your life and challenges you to ask yourself what you want. How to eliminate the hustle mentality and have a better quality life overall.

Ferris speaks about designing the lifestyle that you want, how your attention is the biggest value and to say no to the things that don't matter.

Read this book if you are ready to challenge yourself to make a change in your life. It isn't the easy path, it requires courage and persistence, but the reward is great.
